The purpose of this guide is to help the manufacturer select the right metalworking fluid for the job and the facility. Fluids are complex blends, which must perform a number of tasks simultaneously under a wide range of conditions. A wide variety of tests have been devised to indicate how well a particular fluid is likely to perform; this guide reviews over 150 test methods. The intent of this report is to help sort out the tests, choose the right tests to perform and interpret the results. Test methods are evaluated according to specific areas of concern: (1) health and safety, (2) environment, (3) compatibility, (4) performance, and (5) maintenance.
