The aerospace industry, one of the key exporters for the U.S., faces a time of extreme uncertainty due to a major downturn in demand for its airplanes. High-speed machining can give the U.S. aerospace and defense-related industries an advantage. The study effort presented in this report identified the limits of the elements critical to a machine tool being used in a high-speed application. The study identified research opportunities and developments necessary to design and manufacture a machine tool capable of effective high-speed machining. Included in the 44-page report are the study effort Statement of Work, the results, and supporting documentation.
