Laser Engineered Net Shaping (LENS™) Solution for Commercial and Defense Manufacturing Repair and Overhaul Applications

Under the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS) Commercial Technologies for Maintenance Activities (CTMA) program, a collaborative project was formed to pursue the merits and feasibility of a material deposition repair technology called Laser Engineered Net Shaping (LENS™). The collaborative project participants, Optomec, Inc., Laser Fare and Advanced Technology Group, Anniston Army Depot (ANAD) and NCMS produced a commercialized version of the LENS™ equipment and proceeded to determine both technical and economic feasibility on commercial and military applications.
