Manual Arc Welding Control: Final Report
In a project recently supported by the National Center for
Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS), the enabling technology for weld
flaw avoidance was successfully developed and transitioned into
a commercial product. The cost-sharing Commercial Technologies
for Maintenance Activities (CTMA) program has brought new and
needed welding control technology to the Albany depot. Control
leads to reduced costs and process cycle times by reducing flaws
and rework. The technology has been adapted for use in the
Albany weld shop to not only reduce costs, but also to train
welders and provide a source of documentation required by the
depot to meet ISO-9000 audit requirements
