This class is presented in 8 modules.
Module 1 - Basic Laser Science
This segment will focus on the development of laser light, and
the components within a laser machine that generate an active
laser beam. There will be an introduction to frequently used
definitions of terms used within the ANSI standards.
Module 2 - Gas and Solid State Lasers
A brief discussion of gas, and solid state lasers and the
associated laser delivery systems.
Module 3 - Fiber Optics, Diode and Liquid Dye Lasers
A continuation of the discussion of a variety of lasers and the
laser's associated delivery systems
Module 4 - Tissue Interaction
General discussion of the primary types of tissue response
utilized by a variety of lasers
Module 5 - Tissue Interaction Continued
Additional discussion of visible and mid-infrared lasers and
there interactions within tissue
Module 6 - Laser Safety Standards
A description of the regulatory agencies with responsibility for
laser standards
Module 7 - Implementation of Safety Standards
This session will focus on the implementation of required safety
standards within the hospital setting.
Module 8 - Elements of a Laser Safety Program
A general discussion of the individual elements that must be
present to develop an adequate hospital laser safety program.
