IT investments can be broadly classified/differentiated as internal vs. external. The focus of this session, building on the tenets
of Session I, is systems development to support internal operations. This session will view all systems development decisions from a competitive advantage “filter.
Linking information among disparate parts of the organization in order to:

-Provide better customer service
Enhance knowledge of the customer

-Using IT to reduce transaction or analytical costs

Discuss integrated software and the appropriate use of integrated packages

-Present advantages and disadvantages of pre-packaged application software

-Develop “build vs. buy” decisions relative to software development (similar to the manufacturing purchase vs. in-house production decision)

-Follow a methodology by using an approach to new systems development and implementation that provides periodic deliverables and decision points
